The Dutch divas overhauled a sub-par US team in the 4x100 free relay to retain their world title - a stunning last leg from Femke Heemskirk saw her reel in Dana Vollmer (who was probably a bit tired from posting a stonking 100 fly semi time earlier on in the session) and zoom out in front. Compare the splits:

COUGHLIN Natalie 54.09 DEKKER Inge 54.91FRANKLIN Melissa 52.99  KROMOWIDJOJO Ranomi 53.26HARDY Jessica 54.12  VELDHUIS Marleen 53.33 VOLLMER Dana 53.27  HEEMSKERK Femke 52.46USA 3:34.47  NED 3:33.96

Smoking swims from Heemskerk - and Franklin, who managed to make Kromo look ordinary! Franklin has only qualfied for one backstroke individual event so I’m very much looking forward to seeing her in action.

One has to feel sorry for Hinkelien Schreuder though - poor lass is sat at home having to watch all this on the telly.
