Blimes, Keri-Anne had a bit of a budget for this one! Excellent shot of her IN THE SINK as a tiny, too.

Plenty of post-Trials guff in the media at the moment about our GB swimmers (“oh I’m just happy to have made the team, it’s a chance in a lifetime” etc) but Liam gets down to the nitty-gritty of life on the Olympic squad.

British Trials - Day 5 & 6 Preview
I’d better knock these preview posts out before they are made utterly redundant!
Wednesday
Men’s 200m breaststroke
Possibly not so close a call as for the 100, but Kris Gilchrist and Mike Jamieson, Richard Webb and Andrew Willis all have the potential to get under the OQT of 2.11 in what is turning out to be a very fast pool. Unless Craig ‘tinfoil hat’ Lord is right...

British Trials - Day 3 & 4 Preview
Like the mentalist I am, I started writing my preview of the GB Trials in January. Read my Day 1&2 summary here.
As usual British Swimming have made things extra complicated in terms of A times & extra qualification berths but thankfully Pullboy has spelled it out in terms my idiot brain can understand:
Berth #1: win the event, go under the FINA ‘A’ time.
Berth #2: come...

My Dutch is pretty iffy but I ran this through Google Translate and got the gist of it.
“Besides, what would it really matter if someone spat in your lane just before the race? In any case, if you know how much pee there is in a pool, that one gob is nothing…”
GOOD POINT.

I really hope Janet Evans does well at Trials. Here’s another NY Times article from 1994 about the last time she came out of retirement.

Elbow Gate: Coutts whacked in head by mystery... →
Blimey, this story is pretty surprising. In a lot of sports tensions run high before important races or matches, but top level swimmers always seem so NICE to each other! Unless your name is C Cielo of course.
Speed Endurance has a few theories about which suspect it could be (Europeans in that final: 4th place finisher Fran Halsall, Dutch relay winners Ranomi Kromowidjojo & Femke...

British Trials - Day 1 & 2 Preview
So British Trials are still over a month away but I am already pretty stoked about it! I’ll be there for three of the evening sessions but will be sure to report back in full here.
Let’s see what’s afoot on the first two days:
Saturday Women’s 400IM final: World championship silver medallist Hannah ‘worst passport photo ever’ Miley is the obvious favourite...
Early doors results look promising
Plenty of the Team GB kids have been out and about this weekend for a bit of early-season racing. The times will obviously be relatively slow as everyone’s in heavy training, but let’s see how they all stack up:
Women’s 200m/100m fly
Jess Dickons won the Victorian State champs ahead of Ellen Gandy, with Jess on 2:07.68 and Ellen on 2:11.39. Over in Austin, Jemma Lowe swam...

I heart Eurosport.fr
I also heart Google Translate. From this article about Laure Manaudou’s poor showing at the Minnesota GP:
“If [Manaudou] came out frustrated her weekend, her US coach, Brett Hawke, however, sees some positive elements. ’ We’re not there to make time. We trained very hard for a month and the legs of my swimmers have died. They complain, but it makes me happy ‘, said...
